Ranked rating appears to overweight opponent MMR relative to actual results#896

Z

I’m ranked #330 with a 1658 rating, a 51.4% win rate, and 35 games played. A player ranked #217 has a 1727 rating, a 38.2% win rate, and 34 games played.
I understand that opponent strength should affect MMR, but with essentially identical sample sizes, it seems counterintuitive that a player winning 38% of games can be more than 100 leaderboard places above a player winning 51%.
Is this expected under the current rating formula? If so, could you explain what causes this difference? If opponent strength is responsible, I’d suggest reducing how strongly it can outweigh actual win performance, or displaying strength-of-schedule information so the leaderboard is easier to understand.
