Suggestion: Review Dice Probability and Resource Distribution Balance#348

L

I would like to share some feedback regarding the current dice and resource distribution system.

Recently, the game has started to feel less like a strategic Catan experience and more dependent on extreme luck. I understand that randomness is a core part of the game, but some patterns feel unusual compared to the expected probability.

For example, seeing the same resource number appear repeatedly (such as 3 times in a row) can happen, especially with common numbers like 6 and 8, but seeing low-probability numbers like 4 appear more frequently than higher-probability numbers raises concerns about whether the current distribution feels balanced.

The robber mechanic also feels inconsistent. In situations where a player has exceeded the resource limit significantly (for example, holding 13+ resources), it can sometimes take many turns before the robber activates. A player can remain unaffected for 5+ turns, which reduces the impact of one of the core balancing mechanics of Catan.

Because of this, games can become frustrating and feel unfair. Strategy, positioning, trading, and decision-making become less impactful when the outcome feels dominated by unusual random events.

I have played Colonist for a while, including last year and early this year, and the gameplay experience felt closer to the original Catan balance. Recently, the resource distribution and overall randomness seem noticeably different.

My suggestion is to review the dice generation, resource distribution, and robber triggering system. Perhaps implementing a system that slightly reduces extreme streaks while preserving randomness could make games feel more strategic and enjoyable.

I really enjoy Catan, and Colonist is one of the few platforms where I can experience this game seriously. I hope this feedback can help improve the game and support the growth of the Colonist community, because it is more than just a game — it is a competitive strategy experience.
